“Nothing is as it seems. Nothing is impossible”.
This is the artistic credo of the fashion design duo Olga & Elena Bekritskaja.
Historical costumes and organic shapes serves as a point of departure for the development of a new language of form characterized by a rigorously reduced colour palette, an unorthodox use of fabric and complete disregard for the conventions of fashion design.
Olga & Elena Bekritskaja’s designs appear to be conjured from a world of reverie to lend a note of unique enchantment to each individual’s “performance” in the workaday world, casting every bit player on the stage of daily life in a leading role.
It’s not possible to define an exact dividing line between theatre costume and fashion apparel” say sisters Olga and Elena Bekritskaja, who both studied textile design in Moscow and fashion design with Vivienne Westwood in Berlin. The two have also gained a wealth of experience designing for theatre productions. Just as costumes on the stage form a character visually, clothing really does “make the man”, or woman, in the street: “Those who dress unconventionally and with individual flair make a dramatic statement in everyday life which definitely gives them a better feeling in general” according to the designer duo. With their new collection Olga & Elena Bekritskaja aim to set a trend of their own: “Fashion to express a distinctive personality in the theatre of life”.
